Garett has always enjoyed riding bicycles. When he was 6, he saw the track at Okeeheelee and wanted to ride BMX. His fist time on the track we took all the reflectors and the kickstand off his Wal-Mart Brand “BMX” bike. His first trip down the starting hill he hit the first jump did a front flip over the handlebars and landed on the ground. His parents were terrified that they allowed Garett to “bite off more than he could chew.” When he sat up, to his amazement, his bicycle was still “ghost riding” over the second jump. He yelled out “Look at my bike” Despite his parents misgivings, it was a match made in heaven.

Garett started the 2009 state series late in the season having missed the first four months. His first BMX race was in March 2009 on his new SE Mini Ripper. He quickly moved up the leader board starting in 85th then 45th place ending the season in 23rd place in the 7R Class. His enthusiasm grew and with the help of local Pro Rider, Eric Soletzky, he continued to get faster and captured the # 2 plate for the Southeast Region.

When the 2010 season started Garett had a commitment to capture the #1R plate and this year he had an entire season to do it. From the beginning of the season Garett remained in the number 1 position until two weeks before the State Championship Race when he fell back into second place. Like all good Championship series the top spot was up for grabs. The entire six month series came down to the main event of the Championship Race at Cape Coral and could go to any of the top 5 riders. Garett was fortunate to finish 90 points ahead of the next rider and in a season with 1900 points that’s a close series. Garett is eagerly looking forward to testing his skills against Novice class riders.
